Introduction
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has opened applications for Examination Assistant (EA) and Quality Assurer (QA) positions for the 2025 examination cycle. With 294 posts for Examination Assistants and 951 posts for Quality Assurers, this initiative provides students and unemployed graduates with the chance to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the fairness, accuracy, and security of the matric examination system.
What is Gauteng Education Exam Assistants (X294) and Quality Assurers (X951)?
The programme recruits temporary staff to assist with the handling, processing, and quality assurance of examination scripts during the marking process.
- Examination Assistants (X294) ensure that scripts are received, recorded, scanned, and dispatched accurately.
- Quality Assurers (X951) check that scripts are marked correctly, totals are accurate, and marksheets are properly processed.
Together, these roles safeguard the credibility and reliability of matric results in Gauteng.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a recognised academic qualification such as a Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate, or National Senior Certificate Vocational
- Be a registered student at a tertiary institution, an unemployed person with at least one tertiary qualification, or an unemployed graduate
- Have passed Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level
- Be in second year or higher at a tertiary institution (advantageous)
- Provide details of any previous examination administration experience (such as working as an EA or QA)
- Be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with accuracy and efficiency
Role Responsibility
Examination Assistants (EA):
- Receive, check, control, and scan scripts daily
- Prepare scripts for marking
- Verify the number of scripts and marksheets per batch, subject, and exam session
- Resolve discrepancies in received or dispatched scripts
- Prepare marking centre files and assist in script distribution
- Archive and index scripts for secure storage after marking
Quality Assurers (QA):
- Receive and distribute scripts to marking teams
- Confirm correct numbers of scripts and marksheets per batch
- Ensure all questions are marked and totals calculated correctly
- Verify accuracy of mark transfers
- Work with marking teams to resolve errors
- Reconcile scripts and prepare them for secure archiving
