Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible:
- A qualification in one of the following fields:
- Law
- Public Management
- Public Administration
- Policing
- Criminology
- Forensics
- Criminal Justice
(Qualification must be at NQF Level 6 and recognized by SAQA.)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a law enforcement environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Immigration Act, Refugees Act, Criminal Procedure Act, and relevant regulations.
- Familiarity with international treaties and public service legislative frameworks.
- Valid driver’s license (Code EC) and a Public Driver Permit (PDP).
- Willingness to travel, including internationally, and work extended hours.

Key Responsibilities
Control Immigration Officers are entrusted with critical responsibilities to uphold the integrity of South Africa’s immigration laws. Key duties include:
- Enforcement of Immigration Laws
- Investigate and monitor illegal foreign nationals in accordance with the Immigration Act.
- Detect, trace, arrest, and detain individuals in violation of immigration regulations.
- Combat Illegal Activities
- Address cases of migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and fraudulent documentation.
- Support Deportation Processes
- Facilitate deportations and conduct inspections in loco.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders
- Work with law enforcement agencies to ensure immigration compliance.
- Resource Management
- Prepare reports and manage human, physical, and financial resources within the unit.
