Background & Job Description

Impala Platinum Refineries, based in Springs, Gauteng, is offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring chemical engineers through its P1 and P2 Work Integrated Learning Programme. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to transformation, skills development, and promoting excellence in the South African mining and processing sectors.

This structured one-year practical training forms an integral component of obtaining a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Chemical Engineering. It is designed to provide learners with the necessary exposure to chemical engineering operations and concepts, aligning their academic knowledge with hands-on industry experience.


Tasks

As a P1 and P2 Work Integrated Learner, you will:

  • Be assigned to a mentor or coach who will guide your training in alignment with institutional requirements.
  • Participate in on-site chemical processing activities within the Base Metals Refinery (BMR) and/or Precious Metals Refinery (PMR).
  • Apply theoretical knowledge in practical work settings to gain industry-related experience.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to complete tasks linked to real-time chemical engineering projects.
  • Assist with routine and specialized engineering processes under supervision.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Impala Platinum Work Integrated Learning Programme, candidates must:

  • Have completed all theoretical modules for a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering.
  • Possess a solid understanding of chemical engineering principles and basic industry concepts.
  • Be declared medically fit to work within the BMR and/or PMR environments.

  • A matric certificate
  • A statement of academic results
  • A confirmation letter from the higher education institution indicating that all theoretical subjects are completed

Experience

  • This opportunity is specifically for students who are seeking to complete their P1 and P2 experiential training.
  • No formal work experience is required, but academic diligence and readiness to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting are essential.
  • Shortlisted candidates may undergo psychometric assessments as part of the selection process.
