Kruger National Park, a flagship of South African National Parks (SANParks), is inviting qualified, unemployed South African graduates to apply for exciting internship opportunities. These placements are targeted at young individuals between the ages of 18–35 who have obtained qualifications ranging from National Diploma to Master’s Degree (NQF Level 6 to 9). Successful candidates will be placed in key departments for a 24-month internship programme and receive a monthly stipend ranging from R6 355.69 to R10 486.58, based on their qualification level.


Background & Job Description

The SANParks Internship Programme in Kruger National Park offers motivated graduates the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in one of South Africa’s most iconic conservation environments. This structured internship aims to bridge the gap between academic training and professional employment, contributing to skills development and career advancement within sectors such as Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, and Hospitality or Tourism Management.

Interns will be stationed at either the Phalaborwa Office or Corporate Skukuza, depending on the department assigned. These roles provide exposure to public sector work, conservation support services, and tourism operations in one of Africa’s largest game reserves.


Tasks

Interns will support their respective departments through a variety of administrative and operational functions, including:

  • Human Capital Management (HR):
    • Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, and employee wellness initiatives
    • Participating in training coordination and performance management
    • Supporting record-keeping and compliance processes
  • Labour Relations:
    • Supporting disciplinary and grievance processes
    • Assisting in research and compiling case files
    • Learning legal compliance procedures in labour-related issues
  • Hospitality Service Management (Tourism):
    • Assisting in tourism experience coordination and lodge operations
    • Supporting event management, bookings, and guest services
    • Contributing to quality control in visitor accommodations

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed one of the following qualifications from a South African Public Higher Education Institution (HEI):

  • National Diploma, B Degree, Honours, or Masters in Human Resources Management
    • Placement: 1 intern at Phalaborwa Office
  • National Diploma, B Degree, Honours, or Masters in Human Resources/Labour Relations Management
    • Placement: 1 intern at Corporate Skukuza
  • National Diploma, B Degree, Honours, or Masters in Hospitality or Tourism Management
    • Placement: 1 intern at Tourism Skukuza

Experience

To qualify for the internship, candidates must:

  • Be unemployed and between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed a qualification at NQF Level 6 to 9
  • Not have previously participated in any internship or placement programme
  • Be willing to relocate and cover their own accommodation and transport (where applicable)
