Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education:
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy)
• Residency:
  • Must reside in Pinetown or surrounding areas
• Employment Status:
  • Must be currently unemployed

Subjects Required:
Candidates should have passed the following subjects at NQF Level 4:

• Mathematics / Technical Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy)
• Physical Science / Technical Science
• N3 Diesel Trade Theory and/or N3 Mechanotechnology
• Engineering Graphic and Design

Job Specification

During the 4-year apprenticeship, you will be expected to:

• Learn and Observe:
  Gain a wide range of technical skills and processes under the instruction of experienced staff.
• Demonstrate Skills:
  Apply what you’ve learned by working independently or as part of a team, taking on more responsibilities as your skills develop.
• Complete Apprentice Modules:
  Successfully complete the prescribed modules from merSETA throughout your training period, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
• Health and Safety:
  Understand the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
• Workshop Maintenance:
  Learn to maintain and repair workshop equipment.
• Logbook Maintenance:
  Keep a record of the projects you’ve worked on and the skills you’ve acquired over the course of the apprenticeship.
• Workplace Housekeeping:
  Ensure the workspace is kept tidy and professional.
• Professional Conduct:
  Maintain a smart appearance and always act in a professional manner.
• Additional Duties:
  Carry out any other tasks assigned that are appropriate to your role.
