Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: Grade 08 (basic literacy)
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages of the municipality
  • Previous experience in general work functions is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Willingness and ability to work outside normal hours, during emergencies, and on planned overtime shifts

Role Responsibility

General Workers will be responsible for assisting various directorates in delivering essential municipal services. Duties will vary depending on placement but include:

  • Performing general work functions across assigned directorates
  • Assisting in projects such as parks maintenance, grave digging, and landscaping
  • Participating in waste management services including refuse collection, public cleansing, and disposal site operations
  • Supporting roads and stormwater teams with maintenance and cleaning projects
  • Contributing to water demand functions and sanitation services such as sewer purification and vacuum services
  • Assisting with operations at the Fresh Produce Market and municipal facilities
  • Supporting emergency responses and planned overtime activities
  • Ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with municipal standards
