Job Description
The City of Cape Town Metro Police and Traffic Learnership programme is designed to equip learners with the essential competencies required in the field of law enforcement. Trainees will undergo physical training, attend theory classes, and participate in field operations under the guidance of experienced mentors from the Public Safety Training College.

Training Duration:

  • Start Date: 1 June 2025
  • End Date: 30 November 2026
  • Stipend: R34.91 per hour

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for the programme:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • Permanently residing within the City of Cape Town jurisdiction (proof of residence required)
  • Proficient in English and at least one additional official language
  • Unemployed at the time of application (students and EPWP staff may apply)
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Medically and physically fit for strenuous activities
  • Clean criminal record (background check required)
  • Valid Code B (manual) driver’s license
  • No visible tattoos when in uniform
  • Must meet physical and health screening standards
  • Pregnant applicants are not permitted to participate in the physical assessment

Compulsory Fitness Assessments (Elimination-Based):
Applicants must complete and pass the following to qualify for selection:

  • 2.4km Run (Male: under 11 minutes | Female: under 13 minutes)
  • 30 Push-ups (within 60 seconds)
  • 30 Sit-ups (within 60 seconds)
  • 100m Dead load carry (carrying 2 x 25kg weights)
  • 20m Tyre drag
  • 20m Shuttle runs (10 in 60 seconds)
  • 2.1m Wall climb
  • Motorcycle reach test
  • Unassisted comfort swim

Role Responsibility
During the learnership period, successful candidates will be required to:

  • Participate in all physical and academic training
  • Follow all instructions and safety procedures
  • Uphold the City’s Code of Conduct
  • Wear a designated uniform and protective gear
  • Operate in all weather conditions and environments
  • Attend training and work assignments across various areas of Cape Town
  • Display professional behaviour at all times
  • Refrain from engaging in private work or businesses unless formally approved
