The Moses Kotane Research Institute (MKRI) is offering an exciting opportunity for 600 unemployed graduates to join its Research Data Collection Programme 2025. This initiative will provide meaningful employment while empowering young people with practical skills in research and community development. The programme will run across KwaZulu-Natal, giving graduates exposure to professional research practices while contributing to projects that benefit communities in the province.

What is Moses Kotane Research Institute (MKRI) Data Collection Programme?
The MKRI Data Collection Programme is a large-scale research initiative designed to give unemployed graduates hands-on experience in research fieldwork. Successful applicants will serve as Research Data Collectors, supporting surveys, interviews, and data-driven projects that help inform policy and development strategies in KwaZulu-Natal. This is a 3-year fixed-term, project-based contract with a stipend of R350 per day.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Hold an NQF Level 6–8 qualification in any field
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be computer literate
  • Own a working smartphone
  • Be fluent in English and IsiZulu

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

  • An NQF Level 8 qualification
  • Previous data collection or fieldwork experience
  • Ability to travel and work independently
  • Familiarity with digital data collection tools

Role Responsibility
Selected candidates will be responsible for:

  • Collecting and recording field data in assigned municipalities
  • Administering surveys and questionnaires to community members
  • Capturing data accurately using both paper-based and digital tools
  • Verifying and cross-checking data to ensure quality assurance
  • Following research ethics and protocols at all times
  • Providing progress updates to supervisors
  • Representing MKRI professionally in all engagements with communities
