MSF South Africa is offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring professionals to gain hands-on experience through the Donor Acquisition and Marketing Internship, starting on 1st October 2025 in Johannesburg.
This internship is designed for graduates passionate about marketing, fundraising, and humanitarian work. It equips interns with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to donor acquisition strategies while supporting MSF’s life-saving mission.
What is Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) South Africa: Donor Acquisition and Marketing Internship?
The Donor Acquisition and Marketing Internship is a 12-month paid training opportunity aimed at developing future professionals in fundraising and marketing within the non-profit sector. Interns will work closely with the Donor Acquisition and Marketing Manager, gaining valuable exposure to:
- Fundraising strategies across multiple channels
- Donor engagement and acquisition processes
- Marketing campaign development and execution
- Cross-functional collaboration within a leading humanitarian organization
This role provides a chance to contribute to sustainable donor growth and directly support MSF’s mission to deliver medical aid based on need, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.
Minimum Requirements
- Recently completed degree in Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Business, or related fields
- Basic knowledge of marketing channels and donor engagement strategies
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for humanitarian causes and commitment to MSF principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (CRM system knowledge such as Salesforce is an advantage)
- Willingness to learn data analysis and project management fundamentals
- Previous volunteering experience in fundraising or marketing is desirable
Role Responsibility
Strategy, Planning, and Organizing
- Support in developing and implementing donor acquisition strategies
- Assist in creating annual acquisition plans and budgets
- Contribute to mapping donor journeys and improving donor experiences
Marketing
- Support project management for advertising across TV, radio, print, digital, and mobile channels
- Help design marketing materials for campaigns, including direct mail, press inserts, and digital content
- Assist in emergency campaign coordination, tracking budgets and material development
Results and Quality Orientation
- Support budget monitoring and income reporting
- Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness
- Prepare campaign performance reports while ensuring privacy compliance
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Work closely with the Digital Marketing team and other fundraising units
- Ensure integrated and effective campaign execution
Organization and Compliance
- Assist with compliance in line with government regulations and data protection laws (e.g., PoPIA)
- Contribute to privacy and security reviews for donor acquisition
Initiative and Innovation
- Research emerging fundraising and marketing opportunities
- Support testing of innovative ideas and maintain professional networks
