Introduction
The Matzikama Municipality is inviting applications for the Municipal Financial Management Internship Programme (MFIP) 2025. This two-year initiative is tailored for unemployed graduates eager to launch their careers in finance while gaining in-depth knowledge of municipal operations. With a focus on practical training, interns will acquire valuable financial management skills, helping them become competent professionals in public service delivery.
What is Matzikama Municipality Municipal Financial Internships?
The Municipal Financial Management Internship Programme is a structured initiative aimed at empowering young graduates with practical workplace exposure. Hosted by the Matzikama Municipality’s Finance Directorate, the programme provides experience in key financial areas such as:
- Revenue and expenditure management
- Asset management
- Budget planning, monitoring, and control
- Financial reporting and control
- Supply chain and procurement processes
This internship serves as a stepping stone for graduates who want to build strong careers in financial management and public administration.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify:
- A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with major subjects in:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance
- Risk Management
- Auditing
- Computer literacy
- Good communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa)
- A valid Code B Driver’s Licence
Role Responsibility
Interns will be actively involved in the municipality’s financial processes, including:
- Executing programme-driven financial management tasks
- Supporting revenue, expenditure, and asset management activities
- Assisting with budget preparation, monitoring, and control
- Participating in supply chain management and procurement functions
- Gaining exposure to financial systems and municipal governance practices

Important Notes for Applicants
- Applicants will undergo reference checks, qualification verification, and criminal record screening
- A valid SAPS Clearance Certificate (not older than 6 months) or proof of application is required
- Canvassing with councillors, panel members, or staff will result in disqualification
- If no feedback is received within six weeks after the closing date, applicants should consider their applications unsuccessful
- Preference will be given to candidates in line with the Employment Equity Act and the Municipality’s Employment Equity Plan
