Introduction
National Department of Health: Internships 2025 The National Department of Health is committed to providing opportunities that empower the youth and recent graduates of South Africa. As part of its broader mission to build a stronger, more skilled public service workforce, the Department has launched its 2025/2026 Internship Programme. This internship targets unemployed graduates who are eager to gain occupationally based practical experience within government structures, especially within the health sector and its administrative branches.

This 24-month internship programme is crafted to improve the employability of candidates by equipping them with real-world experience, exposure to government operations, and essential skills needed in their respective disciplines. Graduates who have never participated in any internship programme before are encouraged to apply.

Job Description
The National Department of Health Internship Programme offers opportunities in two major functional areas for the 2025/2026 period: Administration and Supply Chain Management. Both internship streams are designed to provide comprehensive work experience, mentorship, and development in core support areas of the department.

Available Internships:

1. Internship: Administration
Reference Number: NDOH 61/2025

Duties include:

  • Providing general administrative and support services across departmental functions
  • Supporting internal personnel administration processes
  • Assisting with basic supply chain support services
  • Contributing to finance and budget administration tasks

2. Internship: Supply Chain Management
Reference Number: NDOH 62/2025

Duties include:

  • Supporting supply chain management operations
  • Participating in asset management activities
  • Assisting with demand planning and acquisition processes
  • Offering logistical support services and inventory control

Requirements:
To qualify for the internship programme, applicants must meet the academic and eligibility criteria outlined below.

For Internship: Administration (Ref: NDOH 61/2025):
Applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in the following fields:

  • Public Management
  • Public Administration
  • Business Administration
  • Business Management
  • Management Assistant
  • Office Management
  • Office Administration

For Internship: Supply Chain Management (Ref: NDOH 62/2025):
Applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Supply Chain Management
  • Logistics
  • Public Management
  • Purchasing
  • Transport Management

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Must be unemployed at the time of application
  • Must not have previously participated in any internship programme in government or the private sector
  • Must have completed a qualification (degree or diploma) in a recognized South African tertiary institution

Role Responsibility
Interns will be assigned responsibilities that align with the strategic goals and day-to-day operations of the National Department of Health. The goal is to immerse interns in a structured learning environment where they can acquire job-specific skills, build confidence, and prepare for future roles in the public service.

Responsibilities will vary depending on the internship stream but may include:

  • Processing documentation and managing records
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of projects
