What is DHET National Skills Fund (NSF) Internship Programme?

The NSF Internship Programme is a structured learning and development opportunity aligned with the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) 2030. It is designed to:

  • Provide unemployed graduates and N6 certificate holders with practical workplace exposure.
  • Enhance employability through mentorship, training, and professional development.
  • Build a skilled workforce that supports South Africa’s socio-economic growth.
  • Offer regional placement across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Western Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, North West, and Free State.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be unemployed and not currently in full-time study.
  • Have never participated in a public service internship before.
  • Have no criminal record.
  • Be available for the full 24-month contract.
  • For Graduate Internships: Hold a relevant National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree (SAQA-evaluated if foreign).
  • For N6 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) positions: Hold an N6 Certificate in the specified field.
  • Possess digital literacy, communication, and adaptability skills.
  • Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply (attach proof of disability).

Role Responsibility

As an intern, responsibilities vary depending on the department and placement but may include:

  • Assisting with administrative functions and daily operations.
  • Supporting projects and departmental programmes.
