Introduction
Polokwane Local Municipality, in collaboration with the Department of National Treasury, invites unemployed graduates to apply for the Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) Graduate Programme for the 2025-2028 cycle. This 36-month fixed-term internship is designed to provide practical experience and industry exposure, equipping graduates with the skills necessary to excel in their respective fields.
This initiative aims to support capacity building within the municipality, ensuring that qualified graduates gain valuable work experience while contributing to the growth and development of Polokwane’s infrastructure.
Job Description:
Successful candidates will join a structured programme aligned with their field of study, gaining hands-on experience in planning, management, and technical aspects of municipal infrastructure. The internship encompasses various directorates, providing diverse exposure and an opportunity to work with experienced professionals in the public sector.
Internship Opportunities Available:
- Water Services: Civil Engineers (Water/Hydraulic Engineering) – BSc Honours in Civil Engineering, Microbiological Science, or Chemical Science (2 positions)
- Energy Services: Electrical Engineer – B-Tech in Electrical Engineering/Electronics or BSc Electrical Engineering (1 position)
- Economic Development and Planning: Construction Project Management – BSc/Honours in Construction Studies or Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Health and Safety Management/Urban Development (NQFL 8) (2 positions)
- Economic Development and Planning: Property Valuers – BSc/Honours in Property Studies or Real Estate, BCom/Honours in Property Valuation and Management (2 positions)
- Roads and Stormwater: Construction Project Management – BSc/Honours in Construction Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Health and Safety Management or Urban Development (NQFL 8) (1 position)
- Transportation: Construction Project Management – BSc/Honours in Construction Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Health and Safety Management or Urban Development (NQFL 8) (2 positions)
Ideal Candidate:
To qualify for this internship programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African Identity Document.
- Must reside within the jurisdiction of Polokwane Local Municipality.
- Must be under the age of 35.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license (an added advantage).
- Must be unemployed and hold a qualification relevant to the field of application.
- Academic qualifications must comply with the registration criteria of respective statutory councils.
- Must provide a stamped original proof of residence (a letter from a Traditional Local Authority or Municipal utility bill).
Role Responsibility:
Selected graduates will be responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of infrastructure projects. They will gain exposure to municipal standards, policies, and procedures while contributing to sustainable community development through innovative solutions.
