Background & Job Description
CapeNature invites passionate conservationists to apply for the EPWP Pupil Landscape Support position based at its George Regional Office. This unique role is tailored for entry-level candidates looking to gain meaningful experience in biodiversity conservation across the Garden Route Landscape Unit. The position involves a diverse range of activities including protected area expansion, compliance monitoring, permit processing, and environmental education.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Conservation Off Reserve section and contribute to various environmental initiatives that align with CapeNature’s mission to conserve the Western Cape’s natural heritage.


Tasks

  • Support Protected Area Expansion projects and local Conservancy efforts
  • Compile and maintain databases, records, and assist in data analysis
  • Provide support in Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement activities in off-reserve areas
  • Participate in joint investigations and operations concerning environmental legislation non-compliance
  • Conduct inspections for fauna and flora permit applications and compile detailed reports
  • Review management plans and risk assessments for environmental initiatives
  • Advise the public on biodiversity conservation and provide guidance on permit procedures
  • Offer support in wildlife interventions, especially in the case of injured or sick animals

Qualifications

  • National Diploma in Nature Conservation or related environmental science field
  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • High physical fitness level to perform field duties
  • Excellent communication skills in at least two official languages spoken in rural Western Cape
  • Valid driver’s license
  • No criminal record

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years relevant work experience in environmental conservation or a similar field
  • Experience in fieldwork, data collection, and environmental compliance is highly advantageous
  • Proven ability to write reports and deliver professional presentations
