Background & Job Description
Rand Water, a leading water utility in Africa, is offering an exceptional Graduate Development Programme aimed at capacitating young South African engineers through hands-on exposure and sector-specific mentorship. This programme is aligned with Occupationally Directed Education, Training, and Development Practices (ODETDP), with a core objective to develop the next generation of water sector professionals.
Participants will gain skills relevant to freshwater aquatic sciences, water and wastewater technology, as well as digital innovation practices—all within the context of Rand Water’s broader strategic goals. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to engage in real-world learning, contribute to sustainable water management practices, and potentially transition into technical leadership roles within Rand Water’s Academy Technical School.
Tasks
As a participant in the Rand Water Graduate Development Programme, you will be immersed in the following activities:
- On-the-job training in water-related disciplines
- Practical exposure to fieldwork, laboratory work, and applied research
- Involvement in digital tool applications and technical innovations
- Professional development through mentorship and structured learning modules
- Contribution to technical projects aligned with Rand Water’s innovation agenda
Qualifications
To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following educational criteria:
- A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in one of the following engineering fields:
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Experience
This opportunity is designed specifically for graduates who:
- Are unemployed
- Have no prior work experience relevant to their qualification
- Are South African citizens with a valid ID document
- Are under the age of 35, in line with the National Skills Development Strategy III
- Hold a valid Code 08 driver’s license (advantageous, but not mandatory)
