What is Rand Water Graduate Development Programmes?
The Rand Water Graduate Development Programmes aim to bridge the gap between academic study and the professional work environment. Graduates are placed within Rand Water’s operations, where they develop technical competencies, research capabilities, and problem-solving skills while contributing to South Africa’s water security and sustainability.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following general criteria (in addition to programme-specific requirements):
- South African citizen under 35 years old
- No prior participation in a graduate programme
- No criminal record
- Relevant NQF 8 (or higher) qualification in the chosen field
- Research experience or exposure to laboratory/technical projects
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, and basic statistical tools)
Role Responsibility
Depending on the chosen programme, responsibilities include:
- Conducting laboratory analyses, research, and troubleshooting
- Developing and validating scientific or technical methods
- Performing quality control checks under ISO 17025 standards
- Participating in SHEQ compliance, audits, and risk management
- Contributing to water treatment process projects
- Maintaining laboratory or operational equipment
- Preparing reports, documentation, and project presentations
Skills and Attributes
Graduates selected for the programme should demonstrate:
- Strong scientific and technical knowledge in their field
- Good laboratory practice (GLP) and compliance with ISO standards
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Basic project management and organizational skills
- Effective communication, teamwork, and presentation skills
- Professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure
