What the Rand Water Laboratory Assistant Role Offers
Successful candidates will take on a dynamic role supporting the Chemistry Section with day-to-day sample preparation, basic chemical testing, laboratory housekeeping, and adherence to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) procedures.
You will be responsible for assisting in essential operations such as receiving and scanning sample bottles, performing basic laboratory tests, cleaning equipment, and maintaining an organised, safe work environment. The position offers exposure to the latest laboratory systems like LIMS-Labware and plays an integral role in ensuring analytical results are obtained with precision and within set turnaround times.
Minimum Requirements
• NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science
• Minimum of 2 years’ working experience in an analytical laboratory
Primary Responsibilities
• Print sampling schedules and sample labels using LIMS-Labware
• Receive, scan, and prepare sample bottles from the cooler room
• Conduct basic chemical tests including Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and MBAS
• Assist in sample filtration and distribution
• Handle gas bottles for analytical use and dispose of hazardous chemicals safely
• Clean laboratory glassware and work areas
• Practice and maintain SHERQ principles and good housekeeping
Knowledge Required
• Understanding of ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation standards
• Knowledge of water sampling techniques and sampling device use
• Familiarity with general laboratory processes and quality procedures
• Awareness of SHERQ protocols
