Tasks
As a Shop Assistant Cashier, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering outstanding customer service at all times
- Handling transactions accurately using a cash register or POS system
- Assisting customers in locating products and suggesting complementary purchases
- Managing incoming phone calls and responding to queries effectively
- Updating and maintaining customer records
- Ensuring products are neatly displayed and shelves are fully stocked
- Rotating stock and replenishing inventory when necessary
- Ensuring pricing and store displays are accurate and appealing
- Assisting with stock receiving, unpacking deliveries, and organizing items
- Performing general housekeeping to keep the store clean and organized
- Preparing the store for the next day’s operations
- Supporting the store manager during stock audits
- Maintaining equipment safety and accountability
- Following all health and safety procedures
- Handling both cash and card payments without errors
- Completing end-of-day banking processes efficiently
- Understanding sales targets and contributing to store profitability
- Participating in loss prevention activities and business growth strategies
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A Matric certificate (Grade 12)
- Proficiency in English
- The ability to travel within 20km of Kimberley
- A clear criminal record
Experience
Previous experience in one or more of the following roles is required:
- Cashier
- Retail Sales Assistant
- Salesperson
- Customer Service Agent
- Store Assistant or Store Associate
It would also be beneficial if candidates:
- Are between the ages of 18 and 35
- Understand or speak Afrikaans
- Have worked in customer-facing environments
- Are familiar with handling different payment methods (cash, debit, credit)
- Have used point of sale systems (POS or cash registers)
