Minimum Requirements

Applicants interested in these SANParks vacancies must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Valid firearm documentation and competency (Self-Loading Rifle Unit standards 117705, 119650, and 123511)
  • No criminal record with proof of valid SAPS clearance certificate
  • Proof of residence
  • Completion of a Basic Field Ranger course
  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety principles (Health & Safety Level 1)
  • Physically fit with the ability to conduct extended patrols under challenging conditions
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness
  • Passion for biodiversity, conservation, and working with people
  • Knowledge and preferable experience in Field Ranger duties

Role Responsibility

As part of the BSP team, Armed Field Guards will support SANParks’ biodiversity and conservation objectives through various critical duties, including:

  • Conducting routine patrols on foot or by vehicle
  • Guarding and protecting field teams of up to 12 participants
  • Assisting with area integrity management
  • Participating in anti-poaching operations
  • Enforcing law, order, and discipline under NEMA legislation
  • Recording and reporting incidents or wildlife sightings accurately
  • Supporting conservation-related projects, such as alien plant control and biodiversity monitoring
