For 2025, nine positions are available within Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Successful participants will work on conservation, education, and community outreach initiatives while earning a daily wage aligned with EPWP standards.

The programme runs until 31 March 2026, offering practical experience and personal development for individuals committed to environmental protection.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification (Standard 10)
• Certificate or Diploma in Natural Environment or related field (advantageous)
• Valid Code B (08) driver’s licence (advantageous)
• Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Good physical health and fitness for fieldwork
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and after-hours
• Proficiency in English (knowledge of additional official languages is beneficial)
• No criminal record (valid SAPS Clearance Certificate required)
• Understanding of basic Health and Safety principles
• Own transport and accommodation (no staff housing provided)
• Willingness to undergo a fitness assessment
• Proof of residence (preference will be given to local candidates)

Role Responsibility
Environmental Monitors will support both conservation and community education efforts through:

• Conducting ecological monitoring and environmental education activities
• Coordinating departmental tasks and supporting functions
• Planning and delivering environmental awareness programmes
• Assisting in events and outreach activities
• Performing cleaning and maintenance duties at Wilgehof Environmental Education Centre
• Preparing and maintaining facilities such as dining, kitchen, ablution, and outdoor areas
• Ensuring compliance with SANParks health, hygiene, and safety standards
• Assisting with stock control of consumables and cleaning supplies
• Handling administrative duties (timesheets, logbooks, reports)
• Supporting natural resource management initiatives
• Performing ad hoc tasks as required
