What is SANRAL Design and Construction Internship Programme?
The SANRAL Design and Construction Internship is a structured 12-month programme aimed at graduates in project management and civil engineering. Interns will assist SANRAL’s Engineering and Project Management teams in delivering on infrastructure goals by providing administrative, technical, and compliance support throughout the lifecycle of road construction and maintenance projects.
Interns will gain exposure to real-world challenges, interact with stakeholders, and deepen their understanding of project processes within a national infrastructure organisation. The programme is also designed to help bridge the gap between academic study and practical employment, improving long-term career prospects.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the SANRAL Design and Construction Internship Programme 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a National Diploma in Project Management and/or Civil Engineering
- Be a graduate with no prior work experience
- Not have participated in any other internship programme
- Reside in or near the location of the relevant SANRAL Provincial Office where the internship is offered
Role Responsibilities
Interns will support SANRAL’s Engineering Team in various areas, with tasks including:
- Providing administrative support for project documentation and workflows
- Attending project meetings and taking accurate minutes
- Assisting Project Managers with compiling tender documents and presentation materials
- Supporting the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team with technical contributions for Addenda
- Uploading, organising, and managing project documents using SANRAL’s EDMS/OpenText system
- Ensuring project documentation aligns with audit and compliance requirements
- Preparing formal correspondence, project agendas, and detailed reports
- Coordinating logistics such as travel bookings for Project Managers
- Building a foundational understanding of SANRAL’s core functions and project delivery processes

- Good communication and interpersonal skills
