Job Summary: SAPS Student Training Programme 2025
SAPS 5500 Training Programme 2025/2026 Intake The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting applications for Student Training positions under the 2025 intake, as part of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP). Successful candidates will be appointed under the SAPS Act, 1995 and will receive training aligned with SAPS objectives.
SAPS Entry Level Vacancies
Generic Entry Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Complete the SAPS application form and confirm the accuracy of provided information under oath.
- Be a South African citizen (proof required).
- Be between 18 and 35 years old (proof required).
- Be willing to undergo and pass a medical and physical fitness examination.
- Be psychologically assessed for suitability in law enforcement.
- Possess a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification (proof required).
- Be proficient in English and at least one other official South African language.
- Be prepared to take the official SAPS oath of office.
- Be willing to undergo formal SAPS training as prescribed.
- Have no visible tattoos while in SAPS uniform.
- Not be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
- Have no criminal record, pending cases, or past dismissals related to misconduct or dishonesty.
- Consent to fingerprinting and DNA sample testing for criminal record verification.
- Be willing to undergo full background checks and security clearance.
- Be available for deployment anywhere in South Africa.
SAPS Training 2025/2026 Intake
Core Duties:
Successful applicants will be expected to:
- Prevent, investigate, and combat criminal activities.
- Maintain public order and safety.
- Protect citizens and their property.
- Enforce and uphold the laws of the Republic.
SAPS 5500 Trainees
Additional Considerations:
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- A valid driver’s licence for at least a light motor vehicle.
- A three-year tertiary qualification (NQF level 6 or higher) in:
- Policing
- Criminal Law
- Forensic Investigation
- Or any other relevant field.
- Grade 12 certificate with eligibility for:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Diploma
- Higher Certificate studies.

Important Notes:
- All shortlisted candidates will undergo physical fitness assessments, psychometric testing, medical evaluations, and personal interviews.
- Background checks will include reference verification, social media screening, and fingerprint clearance.
- Previous government employees dismissed for misconduct will not be considered.
- Candidates with undisclosed chronic or serious medical conditions affecting training will be excluded.
- Only successful applicants will be contacted. If no response is received within three months of the closing date, the application was unsuccessful.
- Only one application per candidate will be accepted – the system does not allow multiple submissions.
- SAPS reserves the right not to make any appointments.
