As a Laboratory Assistant Grade 2 at Sasol, your primary responsibility will be to assist with various laboratory activities such as sample collection, transportation, and analysis. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that samples are delivered safely and promptly for analysis, while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols. This position requires the ability to work independently and effectively manage your responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties as a Laboratory Assistant Grade 2 will include:

  • Sample Collection & Delivery: Independently collect and transport hazardous chemical samples to the designated analysis locations.
  • Waste Management: Ensure safe removal of chemical waste in compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Sample Registration: Accurately register all samples in the Laboratory Information System and track them through the analysis process.
  • Preparation of Solutions: Prepare bulk solutions and standards for laboratory use.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Adhere to strict safety protocols for chemical handling, waste removal, and vehicle inspection. Conduct routine housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Reporting & Communication: Report deviations or issues to your supervisor and maintain effective communication with colleagues and management.
Qualifications & Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will need the following qualifications and experience:

  • Education:
    • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science as subjects.
    • Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications.
    • A valid driver’s license (Code 8), with at least 6 years of full-time driving experience and proof of vehicle ownership.
  • Experience:
    • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in a chemical production environment is advantageous.
    • Exposure to plant environments will be beneficial.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts.
    • Ability to lift 20-liter containers and work in a physically demanding role.
    • Basic chemical knowledge and a strong commitment to safety and adherence to operational standards.
