Background & Job Description
Sasol, renowned for its contribution to the energy sector in South Africa, has joined forces with PDPS to introduce a specialized Welding Apprenticeship Programme for 2025. The objective of this initiative is to equip aspiring artisans with the technical expertise and workplace exposure necessary for a successful career in welding.
The programme targets local candidates who have completed relevant foundational studies and demonstrate both technical aptitude and a passion for engineering work. Participants will receive structured, industry-aligned training that meets national qualification standards in the welding trade.
Tasks
Selected apprentices will undertake the following responsibilities during the programme:
- Receive structured theoretical and practical training in welding techniques.
- Learn to interpret technical drawings and welding specifications.
- Operate welding equipment under guided supervision.
- Apply quality control measures in welding operations.
- Participate in safety briefings and maintain compliance with Sasol’s safety protocols.
- Complete assessments as per the curriculum and workplace standards.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following academic and technical qualification requirements:
- Engineering Mathematics N3
- Engineering Science N3
- English (NCV L4) or First Additional Language NCV L4
- Mathematics L4 (Pure Trade Related Mathematics preferred. Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable)
- Engineering Science including:
- Engineering Processes L4
- Professional Engineering Practice L4
- Applied Engineering Technology L4
- Welding/Platers Trade Theory Subject (MUST)
Experience
While prior experience is not mandatory, applicants must not be currently enrolled in any other training programme. Commitment, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn are essential attributes sought by Sasol and PDPS.
The programme is open only to residents of the following municipalities:
- Govan Mbeki Municipality
- Lekwa Municipality
- Dipaleseng Municipality
Proof of residency will be required as part of the application process.
