About
Shoprite’s Youth Employment Opportunities 2025 consist of two primary initiatives:
- Retail Readiness Programme (RRP) – A 7-week programme (5 weeks practical + 2 weeks theory) that offers foundational retail skills and results in a NQF Level 3 qualification.
- Youth Employment Services (YES) – A 12-month on-the-job training initiative that exposes participants to various aspects of the retail environment, preparing them for full-time roles or self-employment in the retail sector.
Both programmes aim to build essential work-readiness and retail capabilities for youth entering the job market.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for either programme, applicants must meet the following:
- South African citizenship
- Age between 18 and 34 years
- A valid Grade 12 / Matric certificate or equivalent qualification
Application Requirements
For the Retail Readiness Programme (RRP):
- No previous work experience
- Strong interest in developing retail skills
- Commitment to completing 7 weeks of training
For the YES Programme:
- A completed Retail Readiness Programme (RRP) certificate
- Demonstrated willingness to commit to a 12-month work-based learning programme
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
Participants will engage in structured retail training and work exposure activities, including:
- Assisting with customer service and sales
- Managing stock levels and performing merchandising duties
- Learning store operations and policies
- Applying retail theory in real-world settings
- Gaining insight into the day-to-day operations of one of Africa’s largest retailers
