Sibanye-Stillwater, one of the world’s leading precious metals mining companies, is proud to offer an empowering opportunity for South African youth with the Learnership 18.2 Plating Programme for 2025. This structured training initiative is geared towards individuals passionate about engineering and metallurgy, particularly in the field of plating and structural work.

The learnership is aligned with Sibanye-Stillwater’s commitment to responsible mining and skills development in the communities it serves. The programme is designed to blend theoretical instruction with practical, on-site training, giving learners a head start in their professional careers within the mining and engineering sectors.


Tasks

As a learner in the Plating Programme, your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing assigned training modules within the designated timeframe
  • Participating in SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) meetings
  • Performing technical work according to strict standards and specifications
  • Participating in risk assessments and adhering to safety protocols
  • Reporting progress, challenges, and learning milestones to supervisors
  • Developing positive team dynamics and workplace relationships
  • Supporting corporate goals including responsible mining and operational excellence

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following minimum academic qualifications:

Option 1: N2 Certificate (must include the following subjects):

  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating Structural Steel Drawings
  • Platers Trade Theory

Option 2: NCV Level 4 in either:

  • Electrical Infrastructure Construction (Electrical and Instrumentation)
  • Engineering and Related Design (for other trades)
  • With at least 40% in all subjects

Option 3: Grade 12 with the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Physical Science
  • Engineering Graphic Design (Drawings)
  • Trade Theory subject (with a minimum of 40% in each)

Experience

The following are additional requirements and advantages for prospective applicants:

  • Medically fit for duty within the applicable business unit
  • Clear criminal and security record
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Advantage: Any previous experience in an engineering or mining environment
