Background & Job Description

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is seeking two qualified and motivated individuals to join their IT Infrastructure Services division as Junior System Administrators (Linux). This role is vital to ensuring the stability, security, and performance of system software and the cloud-based virtual server environments that power various governmental IT operations.

This is a valuable opportunity for candidates with a passion for Linux systems administration and a desire to grow their careers within a well-respected and strategically crucial organization in South Africa’s public sector IT landscape.


Tasks

Successful candidates will be responsible for the following key areas:

  • Supporting infrastructure implementation and deployment initiatives
  • Performing system administration and hardware/software maintenance
  • Delivering technical support for internal teams and external vendors
  • Assisting with the compilation of section performance reports for accountability

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following educational requirements:

  • A minimum of a 1 to 2-year National Certificate in Information Technology (NQF Level 5) or relevant accredited specialised training courses
  • A certification in a Linux environment (Red Hat, Ubuntu, or Suse Linux) will be advantageous

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience working in a Linux server environment
  • Solid understanding of Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu, or SUSE Linux
  • Knowledge of enterprise or midrange class server hardware and related system tools
