The ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning) Trainee Programme is designed for skilled individuals seeking official recognition for their technical trade experience.
This structured programme takes place at the SAB Accredited Technical Training Centre in Rosslyn and provides an opportunity to:
- Register for ARPL trade assessment,
- Complete any identified gap training,
- Prepare and sit for a trade test accredited by QCTO, NAMB, and DHET.
The end goal? To become a qualified artisan in your trade of expertise through a recognised national framework.
Tasks
As part of the ARPL Trainee Programme, you will be required to:
- Undergo a comprehensive assessment to determine your skill gaps.
- Attend targeted training sessions to close any knowledge or practical gaps.
- Prepare intensively for the artisan trade test.
- Successfully complete the trade test in line with national standards and regulations.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following qualification criteria:
- N2 Certificate including relevant trade theory subjects with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience;
- Technical trade theory programs quality assured by a SETA at NQF Level 3 with a minimum of 3 years’ experience;
- Relevant Engineering NCV at NQF Level 3 plus 3 years’ relevant experience;
- Engineering NCV Level 4 with completed experience modules and 18 months’ experience;
- Technical Grade 12 (Maths, Science, and trade theory) with 3 years of experience;
- Grade 9 with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience;
- N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, or N stream) with 18 months relevant work experience.
Experience
All applicants must have practical experience directly related to the trade they are applying for. A minimum of 3 to 4 years of trade-specific experience is required, depending on the qualification route.
You must also prepare and submit the following supporting documents:
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Letter from your current or previous employer confirming trade-related experience
- Certified copy of your South African ID
- Certified copies of your highest relevant qualifications
