SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE x43 Security Officers 2024 The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting applications from qualified and competent candidates for the position of Security Officer. This recruitment drive is for 43 Security Officer positions at the SAPS Head Office in Pretoria. Requirements:

  • Demonstrate competency in the post-specific core functions.
  • Fluency in at least two of the official languages, with one being English.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Clean criminal/departmental record with no pending cases.
  • Successful candidates will undergo security screening and fingerprint verification.
  • Possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database at NQF level 4.
  • Registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) and possession of at least a Grade C security certificate or higher.
  • Not declared unfit to possess a firearm and willing to undergo and maintain firearm competency training.
  • Relevant degree/diploma in the security field is an added advantage.
  • Completion of relevant courses in the field and possession of a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license are advantageous.
  • Willingness to work shifts and extended hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Access Control: Ensure compliance with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985). This includes the positive identification of employees, visitors, and contractors at security access points.
  • Visitor Management: Manage the registration of employees, visitors, and contractors, including the electronic searching of individuals and ensuring legislative requirements are met before granting entry.
  • Security Checks: Perform thorough checks on suppliers, articles, and objects before allowing entry to ensure the safety of the premises.
  • Patrol Duties: Conduct patrols in buildings and fenced-off areas to ensure security, as well as guard vehicles and equipment in the field from a security perspective.
  • Security Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check security equipment and facilities and take appropriate action if any deficiencies or problems are identified.
  • Reporting: Bring any security-related issues to the attention of senior security personnel.

  • New appointments in SAPS must provide a buccal sample for forensic DNA profiling, as required by the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, 2013.
  • Former public service employees who retired due to severance, early retirement, or medical reasons are not eligible to apply.
