Job Description
The Wild Coast Sun is offering a structured and industry-relevant learnership aimed at developing the next generation of professional chefs and kitchen professionals. Learners will be trained in various aspects of cookery under the guidance of experienced chefs while working within the resort’s kitchen environment. This practical and theoretical programme is aligned with the National Certificate in Professional Cookery (NCV Level), ensuring participants receive a nationally recognized qualification.

Participants will rotate through key sections of the kitchen including cold kitchen, hot kitchen, pastry, and butchery while learning crucial skills such as meal preparation, hygiene standards, kitchen safety, menu planning, and customer service excellence. The programme is designed to empower learners with real-world skills that are immediately applicable in South Africa’s growing hospitality and tourism sector.

Ideal Candidate

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
  • Maths or Mathematical Literacy (essential for theoretical modules)
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal)
  • Must possess a valid South African ID
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in a smoking environment
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Role Responsibility
As a Learner Chef within the Wild Coast Sun team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in all scheduled training sessions, both theoretical and practical
  • Assisting with food preparation and service in accordance with industry standards
  • Maintaining hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety protocols at all times
  • Supporting the kitchen team in daily tasks such as prepping ingredients, cooking meals, plating, and cleaning
  • Learning menu creation and portion control under the guidance of mentors
  • Collaborating with the broader culinary team and contributing to the resort’s guest dining experience
  • Adhering to shift schedules and completing learnership assignments on time
