TBHIV CARE Learnerships Support 2025 TB HIV Care (THC), a leading non-profit organisation in South Africa’s public health space, is offering an impactful opportunity for motivated youth to join its expanding team as Learner Support Agents (LSAs) in Tsolo, OR Tambo, under the PPPrev Programme. This role is suited to individuals passionate about community engagement, health education, and empowering adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in vulnerable communities.

Founded in 1929, TB HIV Care is well-known for delivering integrated, people-centered health services, particularly in areas where HIV and TB are most prevalent. This role provides an entry-level opportunity into the public health field, ideal for individuals between 18 and 35 who are eager to make a difference through awareness and education.


Job Description

The Learner Support Agent (LSA) plays a key role in identifying vulnerable AGYW, mobilising support for HIV prevention services (particularly PrEP), and maintaining engagement through effective case management. By supporting peer-driven outreach efforts and facilitating access to structural and clinical programmes, LSAs directly contribute to reducing HIV incidence and improving the lives of young people in the community.

As an LSA, you will be responsible for community mobilisation, pre-screening, accurate record keeping, and promoting continuation in care for individuals initiated on PrEP. The role also includes educational outreach and maintaining youth care clubs that support long-term retention and behaviour change.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 or TVET College Level 2, OR Grade 10 with 1 year experience in HIV-related programmes
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years of age
  • Strong communication skills in English, IsiXhosa, and other South African languages
  • A valid driver’s license would be an added advantage
  • Prior HIV counselling experience will be advantageous

Role Responsibility

As a Learner Support Agent, your duties will include:

  • Creating awareness on issues that affect AGYW within communities
  • Mobilising support and participation in PrEP and PPPrev programmes
  • Providing accurate, up-to-date information on HIV, AIDS, and available prevention services
  • Educating peers on human rightsgender-based violence, and gender equality
  • Conducting hotspot mapping to identify high-risk areas for HIV prevention outreach
  • Pre-screening AGYW to identify vulnerability and connect them to appropriate support services
  • Promoting and facilitating youth care clubs
  • Implementing case management strategies aligned with organisational standards
  • Using structured mobilisation tools to track outreach efforts and meet daily recruitment targets
  • Supporting AGYW and Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYM) in accessing HIV prevention and care services
  • Attending training sessions and participating in review meetings for continuous learning
  • Submitting detailed reports to supervisors and maintaining updated mobilisation logs

  • Stakeholder management — able to work collaboratively with facilitators, clinical staff, and community members
  • Attention to detail — ensures accurate data collection and proper documentation
  • Computer literacy — basic IT skills required for reporting and communication
  • Organisational and administrative skills — manages multiple tasks efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player
  • Experience in youth mobilisation, HIV prevention, or community-based health services is advantageous
