What is the Tshwane Metro Police Traineeship Programme?


The Tshwane Metro Police Traineeship Programme 2025 is a unique, structured opportunity by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in their communities. This programme is designed to equip young South Africans with the necessary skills and practical knowledge to become functional Metro Police Officers within the City of Tshwane.

The TMPD is seeking 200 Trainee Metro Police Officers from various demographic backgrounds, including African, Coloured, Indian, and White applicants, with a strong focus on promoting employment equity, diversity, and inclusion across the metro.

The traineeship is ideal for energetic, intelligent, and physically fit individuals who are ready to serve and protect the public through traffic policing, by-law enforcement, and crime prevention.

Fields of Law Enforcement Covered


Selected trainees will be deployed to perform duties in the following service areas:

  • Traffic policing under the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996)
  • Policing municipal by-laws and regulations
  • Crime prevention within the Tshwane metropolitan area

Minimum Requirements


Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the 2025 TMPD Traineeship:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate – certified copy required
  • Valid manual transmission driving licence (Code 08/B)
  • No criminal record or pending criminal case (will be fingerprinted at own cost)
  • Must not be listed in the sexual or child offenders register
  • Must not have been dismissed from government employment for misconduct
  • South African citizen residing in Tshwane (provide proof of residence)
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Medically fit and able to perform strenuous exercise (medical certificate required)
  • Must complete and pass a physical fitness test
  • Must undergo and pass a psychometric assessment
  • Proficient in English (will be tested)
  • Must not be declared unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act
  • No visible tattoos while wearing uniform
  • Willing to sign and adhere to TMPD’s code of conduct
