The Apprentice: Mechanical Fitter program aims to equip learners with the skills and expertise to handle installation, maintenance, and repair tasks related to machinery and equipment. Through comprehensive training, the program prepares individuals to excel in mechanical fitting roles and contribute to improving Transnet’s productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities (Position Outputs)
As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you will engage in various hands-on activities to enhance your technical expertise:
- Installations: Assist in the installation of machines in workshops.
- Repair & Maintenance: Perform repairs and maintenance of buildings and machinery.
- Fault Finding: Conduct mechanical fault diagnosis and repairs on electro-hydraulic machines and motorized equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance: Carry out preventive maintenance (PM) and report any defects.
- Upgrades & Overhauls: Participate in the overhaul, modification, and upgrading of machines and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required
To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Educational Requirements:
- NTC2 Certificate: Must include four relevant trade subjects, all passed.
- Technical National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4 or Higher: Completion of seven subjects.
- Technical Matric Certificate: Must include Pure Mathematics and Physical Science, with relevant trade theory.
- Academic Performance: All subjects must be passed with a minimum of 50%.
