Job Description

External Markers will play a vital role in ensuring UNISA’s assessment processes uphold academic excellence. This includes marking assignments and exam scripts professionally, fairly, and within specified deadlines.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Execute all assessment-related tasks in alignment with UNISA’s assessment policies
  • Mark assessment tasks (assignments and/or exams) consistently, fairly, and on time
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and development
  • Attend compulsory markers’ meetings and submit reports within the given timeframe
  • Maintain full confidentiality of student information and academic content
  • Uphold academic honesty and integrity in all marking tasks
  • Adhere to UNISA’s policies on tuition, plagiarism, examination processes, and assessment
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and professionalism in dealing with academic content

Ideal Candidate

UNISA seeks committed professionals with solid academic backgrounds and proven experience in linguistics, translation, interpreting studies, or language practice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum NQF Level 9 qualification (e.g., MA in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Language Practice) or
  • NQF Level 10 qualification (e.g., Ph.D./DPhil/DTech in a related language discipline)
  • At least 3 years’ experience teaching or working in the field of language practice (Secondary School, TVET College, or University level)

Role Responsibility

External markers will be expected to uphold the values of UNISA by providing fair, ethical, and constructive assessments that align with both the Curriculum Policy and ODeL Strategy.

Duties include:

  • Performing assessment duties as stipulated in the contract and task agreement
  • Complying with UNISA’s quality standards and feedback mechanisms
  • Ensuring accurate and unbiased marking
  • Reporting on completed marking tasks
  • Attending mandatory training and feedback sessions
  • Utilizing assessment tools to evaluate student performance in line with NQF descriptors
