Introduction
The Wits Health Consortium (WHC), a subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand, is actively recruiting for three Data Capturer positions within its Gophelega Project in Tshwane. These roles are crucial to supporting the South African public healthcare system through improved patient tracking and retention strategies. These fixed-term contract positions are designed for professionals with a keen interest in healthcare data systems and HIV care support.

If you are a skilled communicator with a passion for data accuracy and want to play a role in enhancing the healthcare journey of people living with HIV (PLHIV), then this opportunity could be the right fit for you. The selected candidates will join a committed team focused on community health improvement, particularly through outreach and tele-tracing services.

Job Description
The primary objective of the Data Capturer role is to ensure the seamless retention of PLHIV in healthcare by tracking and tracing individuals who are awaiting antiretroviral therapy (ART) or have missed appointments. These efforts are conducted mainly via telephonic communication and data capturing tools.

Responsibilities include:

  • Tele-tracing of HIV-positive clients who are not yet on ART or have missed scheduled appointments
  • Accurate and timeous capturing of program data using a computerized database and reporting tools
  • Collaborating with outreach teams and facility-based staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Monitoring patient movement within healthcare facilities and the community
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of tracking, linkage, and referral activities

The role requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and consistent communication with patients, even during evenings or weekends, to achieve optimal retention outcomes.

Ideal Candidate
This position is ideal for a candidate who is deeply committed to community healthcare and understands the value of accurate data in public health. Candidates must possess a Matric certificate and have experience or training in linkage to care and data capturing. A sound understanding of tracking, tracing, and referral systems within a healthcare context is essential.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Grade 12 qualification
  • Linkage to care and data capturing training or experience
  • Minimum of 1 year data capturing experience, with Tier.Net system knowledge being a mandatory requirement
  • Prior experience in tracking and tracing PLHIV in both community and facility settings
  • Working knowledge of healthcare linkage systems and patient movement protocols

Role Responsibility
As a Data Capturer under the Gophelega Project, your role will revolve around strengthening retention-in-care strategies through efficient data practices and patient communication.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate input of patient data into Tier.Net and associated platforms
  • Perform regular telephonic or SMS follow-ups with patients who missed appointments
  • Support the linkage of HIV-positive patients to ART initiation services
  • Document all tracking and tracing activities in accordance with program SOPs
  • Report inconsistencies or challenges to supervisors to improve outreach outcomes
  • Engage with facility and community-based teams to coordinate tracing efforts

This role is vital in reinforcing the national healthcare objective of 95-95-95: ensuring that 95% of people with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed receive ART, and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression.

Skills & Attributes
To succeed in this role, applicants should be detail-oriented, patient-focused, and possess strong interpersonal skills.

Essential skills and attributes include:

  • Excellent computer literacy, particularly in data capturing systems like Tier.Net
