As part of its drive for operational excellence and enhanced campus connectivity, the Properties & Services (P&S) Department is seeking a professional, experienced, and customer-focused Shuttle Bus Driver. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the transport team, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of passengers across UCT’s campuses, residences, and designated shuttle stops.

What You’ll Be Doing

The primary responsibility of the Shuttle Bus Driver is to ensure the timely and secure transportation of students, staff, and visitors on the UCT shuttle route. You will be expected to follow strict safety protocols, operate under varying weather and traffic conditions, and deliver top-tier customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.

Your Key Responsibilities Include:

• Safely driving UCT students, staff, and visitors between campuses and residences based on a scheduled waybill system
• Applying advanced and defensive driving techniques
• Conducting regular vehicle checks to maintain cleanliness, tidiness, and road-worthiness
• Adhering to all National Road Traffic Agency regulations and UCT transport policies
• Responding promptly to emergency situations affecting shuttle operations
• Ensuring passenger safety and comfort throughout every trip
• Delivering excellent customer service in all interactions
• Performing additional duties as required by the Operations Manager

Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

• A Grade 12 certificate or an NQF level 4 qualification
• 5 years’ relevant bus driving experience in the Passenger Transport Industry
• A valid, unendorsed South African Code C or EC Driver’s License
• A valid Professional Driver’s Permit (PrDP)
• Strong customer focus and clear communication skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and remain calm under pressure
• Willingness and availability to work on a rotational shift schedule

Advantageous Qualifications:

• Advanced Driving Certificate (advantageous but not required)
