Background & Job Description
Life Hilton Private Hospital, part of the trusted Life Healthcare Group, is currently recruiting for four Rehabilitation Attendants to support operations in its dynamic Rehabilitation Unit. These roles are critical to ensuring smooth, day-to-day support to the nursing and therapy teams. The selected candidates will directly report to the Nursing Services Coordinator and play a vital role in maintaining an optimal therapeutic environment for patients.
The Rehabilitation Unit is a part of Life Healthcare’s growing national network of specialized care facilities, designed to deliver high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitative services. This role is ideal for compassionate individuals who want to contribute meaningfully to patients’ recovery and promote independence through therapy support.
Tasks
Facility Readiness & Equipment Support:
- Prepare and maintain cleanliness of rehabilitation and gym spaces
- Sanitize and ensure gym equipment is in functional condition
- Clean wheelchairs, cushions, and pool towels as needed
Therapy Support:
- Assist therapists during individual and group therapy sessions
- Support patients in mobility exercises, aquatic therapy, dressing, and ADL (Activities of Daily Living) training
- Help patients with cognitive exercises like puzzles, memory games, and writing
Patient Preparation:
- Escort patients from their wards or previous appointments
- Ensure patients are properly dressed and ready for therapy
- Inform patients about session details and encourage cooperation
Daily Living and Independence Training:
- Guide patients in kitchen and bathroom therapy activities
- Support feeding without assisting with eating unless approved by a speech therapist
- Reinforce ADL skills outside therapy sessions
Accompanying & Community Reintegration:
- Escort patients to therapy sessions across the facility
- Join patients on supervised community outings and leisure activities
- Engage patients in puzzle-building, games, and weekend extramural sessions
Nursing Support:
- Help patients with bathing and self-care under nursing supervision
- Feed patients when there is no risk of aspiration
- Assist dementia patients in safely navigating the ward
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
- Certification as a Caregiver from a reputable training institution
- Basic first aid certification is advantageous
- Willingness to participate in ongoing in-service rehabilitation training
Experience
- Previous exposure to a hospital or rehabilitation facility is essential
- Hands-on experience supporting patients in therapeutic or caregiving environments preferred
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
