Requirements for the Programme

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum: Honours degree in Psychology.
  • Additional: Successful completion of the theoretical component of a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.
Professional Registration
  • Mandatory: Registration with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Psychology (Intern).
Skills and Competencies
  • Fulfillment of training standards as set by the HPCSA and the South African Professional Board of Psychology.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy.

Responsibilities and Duties

Clinical Services

  • Conduct in- and outpatient clinical assessments, provide psychological treatment, and formulate psychiatric conditions for both adults and children.
  • Engage in outreach and provide support to district and community health clinics.
  • Participate in ward work covering a range of psychiatric diagnoses, including medical wards, intellectual disability, and forensic services.
  • Perform psychometric assessments, including comprehensive neuropsychological, personality, and developmental evaluations.

Administrative and Academic Tasks

  • Undertake general and clinical administrative tasks.
  • Participate actively in the academic training programs of the Clinical Psychology departments.
