Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  1. Educational Qualification:
  • Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
  • Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification that is recognized for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic).
  1. Registration:
  • Current registration with the SAPC as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
  1. Experience:
  • A minimum level of experience is required post-registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic).
  1. Skills and Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974 and the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 101 of 1995, as amended.
  • Strong numeric skills.
  • Familiarity with Drug Supply Management principles.
  • Attention to detail and precision in executing duties.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to perform a range of duties under the supervision of a pharmacist. These include:

  • Stock Control: Managing stock by receiving, issuing, reporting, and maintaining accurate records using both electronic and manual systems. Ensuring medicines are properly stored.
  • Dispensing of Medicines: Checking prescriptions for legality, authenticity, and validity. Dispensing medicines and ensuring their appropriate use.
  • Administrative Functions: Executing various administrative functions within the dispensary.
  • Pharmacy Education: Participating in pharmacy education programs and supporting outreach services in the community.
  • Patient Support: Offering advice and support to patients and other healthcare professionals regarding pharmaceutical matters.
  • Networking: Building networks with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Compliance: Ensuring all duties are performed within the scope of practice of a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
