As an IT Intern at Varsity College Sandton, you will be exposed to various aspects of IT support and maintenance. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Lecture Room Support

  • Provide first-line support for computer and lecture venues.
  • Maintain the operational state of computer and lecture venues.
  • Perform daily checks on copiers, printers, motorized screens, and projectors.
  • Ensure wireless infrastructure is functional and operational.

2. Hardware Support

  • Assist users with desktop and laptop-related queries.
  • Support users with photocopier and printer-related issues.
  • Install desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripheral components.
  • Set up projectors in classrooms.

3. Software Support

  • Install necessary software for users.
  • Keep software updated and assist with software-related queries (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Administer software licensing and ensure compliance.

4. End User Training

  • Provide instructions to users on the use of hardware and software.
  • Respond to hardware, software, and system operation queries.
  • Manage Active Directory Account and Mailbox creation.

5. Maintenance of HIPS

  • Diagnose problems with the Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) and campus connectivity.
  • Administer TMS (Telephone Management System) and EWS (Broadsoft).

6. Administration and Documentation

  • Ensure all IT-related queries are logged with the Service Desk.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including updating the hardware/software asset register and preparing photocopier/telephone reports.

7. General IT Support

  • Ensure neatness in the Server Room, ICT Office, and ICT Storeroom.
  • Manage and maintain the ICT equipment sign-out/sign-in process.

8. Assessment Support

  • Administer and support IT-related tests and exams.
  • Manage Student Active Directory (AD) Exam account administration and KIX script preloads.

9. Development

  • Shadow Senior ICT and ICT Support staff for hands-on learning and development.
  • Troubleshoot server-related issues.

Competencies Required

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve IT-related problems efficiently.
  • Computer Literacy and Systems Application: Familiarity with various computer systems and applications.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Time Management Skills: Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to interact with staff and students professionally.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Education:
  • Minimum of Higher Certificate or Occupational Certificate Level 5 (NQF Level 5).
  • A+ / N+ certifications.
  • Experience:
  • No prior work experience required as this position is suited for recent graduates.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 17:00
