Joburg city Theatres: X3 Security Officers 2024 (Apply with Grade C) The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an entity of the City of Johannesburg dedicated to operating the Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre, and Soweto Theatre. JCT aims to provide integrated management and promote the performing arts within these venues. As part of its commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all patrons and staff, JCT is seeking to recruit three diligent and qualified Security Officers.

Position Overview

The Security Officer positions are integral to maintaining the security and safety of the theatre facilities, employees, stakeholders, clients, and assets. The officers will be responsible for access control, perimeter patrolling, security systems operations, and general security services.

Requirements

To be considered for the Security Officer position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: Minimum of Grade 9 education.
  • Certification: Valid Grade C Security Certificate.
  • Registration: Compliance with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority).
  • Physical Ability: Must be capable of standing for up to 4 hours.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to interact effectively with people.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Alertness: Must have an excellent sense of judgment and the ability to remain vigilant at all times.

Primary Function

The primary responsibility of the Security Officer is to ensure the safety and security of the theatre’s premises and all its occupants. This includes controlling access to the buildings, patrolling the perimeter, operating security systems, and providing general security services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Access Control: Ensure compliance with all access control procedures, issue access control permits to visitors, and collect these permits upon departure.
  • Visitor Management: Escort visitors from the reception/access control points throughout the building.
  • Detection Systems: Operate walkthrough detection systems to ensure no weapons or unauthorized items are brought into the building.
  • Firearm Security: Register private firearms and secure them in the designated firearm safe facility.
  • Baggage Inspection: Conduct X-ray examinations of baggage and ensure unauthorized items are prevented from entering the premises.
  • Property Management: Record all private property brought into the building in the appropriate registers and ensure that assets removed from the premises have the necessary permits.
  • Electronic Security Systems: Respond to alerts from electronic security systems and check their operation during shifts. Document any security breaches and actions taken to address them.
  • Office Inspections: Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with office security protocols.
  • Asset Protection: Secure vulnerable assets found in risk areas and keep them in safe custody.
  • Perimeter Checks: Regularly check the building perimeter and the electronic security systems deployed around the building at the start and end of each shift.
  • Vehicle Searches: Conduct vehicle searches where appropriate and necessary.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other security-related duties as required by the management.
