As a Ticket Sales Agent at SAA, your primary role will be to handle various passenger ticketing duties within the airport environment. The objective is to provide exceptional service to airline customers while ensuring optimal revenue generation through ticket sales. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for securing and accounting for cash generated from these transactions.
Principal Accountabilities
Strategy and Planning
- Departmental Strategy: Understand and contribute to the departmental strategy and plan relevant to your work outputs.
- Recommendations: Provide suggestions to support the implementation of departmental strategies and plans.
- Budget Management: Contribute to budget management and cost containment efforts.
- Cost Saving Initiatives: Continuously apply cost-saving measures and recommend ways to improve profitability.
Financial Management
- Cash Control: Ensure meticulous cash control, reconciliation, and preparation of sales reports.
- Banking: Manage the banking of firearms handling fees and lounge access fees.
- Pay-outs and Refunds: Handle all pay-outs and refunds efficiently.
Governance and Risk Management
- Compliance: Adhere to governance and risk management policies, processes, and systems.
- Reporting: Deliver regular, irregular, and timely reports to key stakeholders.
Reservations and Ticketing
- New Reservations: Create new reservations, advising passengers on fare rules.
- Special Requests: Insert SSR (special requests) fields and issue staff, family tickets, and Transnet concessions.
- Amendments: Amend existing reservations, including splitting bookings and pre-seating.
- Ticketing: Ensure accurate ticketing of new reservations and charging of service fees.
- Re-routing: Manage re-routing of existing reservations due to schedule changes or flight cancellations.
- Reissue Tickets: Reissue tickets for time or date changes and handle Voyager and revenue ticket upgrades.
- Flight Information: Provide detailed flight information, available fares, and terms and conditions of air travel.
- Fare Calculation: Quote and calculate fares, and provide visa requirement information using TIMATIC.
- Recalculations: Recalculate fares and manage currency conversions as needed.
- Excess Baggage: Process excess baggage charges and ensure accurate enrolment of new memberships.
- Voyager Reservations: Handle new Voyager reservations, purchase Voyager miles, and manage Star Alliance partner additions.
- Fees and Penalties: Charge penalties and change fees as applicable.
- Credit Card Reservations: Perform credit card companion reservations and Voyager upgrades.
- Certificates: Issue certificates for specific use, such as Redemption awards.
- Web Support: Maintain web support by reinstating bookings and managing authentication and ticketing of web-originating bookings.
- Training: Train newly appointed staff and those from other departments on job-related tasks.
- Vouchers: Issue hotel and transport/meal vouchers.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, candidates must have:
- Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric) as a minimum requirement.
- A 3-year diploma in a relevant field will be advantageous.
- Experience:
- At least 1 – 2 years of experience in Airport Passenger Handling, Customer Management Systems, Dangerous Goods, and Airside operations.
- Basic Fares, Reservations, and Ticketing courses are essential.
Knowledge and Skills
- Customer Service:
- High standards of customer service and passenger handling skills.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in the Amadeus Reservation System (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced Fares, and Ticketing).
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods Handling, Star Alliance Requirements, and Verification of Travel Documents.
- Safety and Emergency Management:
- Understanding of Safety Management System (SMS) and Station Emergency Response Plan (SERP).
- Marketing and Sales:
- Basic marketing and sales skills to promote airline services and products.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Effective leadership skills and strong telephone etiquette.
- Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Time Management:
- Superior time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.
