Background & Job Description
Vodacom, in collaboration with the e-waste management industry, is proudly launching the E-Waste Management Learnership Programme 2025. This initiative aims to empower young South Africans, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with practical skills, knowledge, and experience to thrive in the growing field of environmental sustainability and technology waste management.
The programme supports youth employment, promotes green skills development, and encourages a responsible approach to electronic waste handling. Through this 12-month opportunity, learners will gain exposure to real-world e-waste practices, sustainability frameworks, and mentorship from environmental professionals.
Tasks
Participants in the Vodacom E-Waste Management Learnership Programme will engage in the following key activities:
- Assist with the collection, classification, and safe disposal of electronic waste
- Learn and implement industry-standard e-waste recycling practices
- Participate in environmental audits and sustainability assessments
- Support digital record-keeping and reporting of recyclable materials
- Attend skills development workshops and training sessions
- Collaborate with e-waste professionals to understand the lifecycle of electronic devices
- Practice safe handling and storage of e-waste components
- Contribute ideas for improving recycling systems and environmental impact
Qualifications
To qualify for the Vodacom E-Waste Management Learnership Programme 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship (with a valid South African ID)
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Completed Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and Physical Science
- Computer literate with basic IT skills
- Fluent in English and/or another South African official language
- Able to provide proof of residence in Gauteng
- Not employed or enrolled in any other learnership or study programme
Experience
Although prior work experience is not required, the programme is ideal for youth who:
- Have a passion for the environment and green technologies
- Display a strong sense of responsibility and accountability
- Are eager to gain practical workplace experience
- Can demonstrate self-motivation and a willingness to learn
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
Applicants from Quintile 1 to Quintile 3 schools (disadvantaged backgrounds) will be prioritised, ensuring inclusive access to developmental opportunities.
