Nando’s Food and Innovation Learnership 2024 The Food and Innovation Student will support the Food and Innovations Manager in developing innovative product concepts. This role involves incorporating new and existing ingredients and packaging to create products that meet customer needs and are feasible for operational execution.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Food Science, Technology Diploma, or Food & Beverage Operations.

Legal Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to travel locally

Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of food microbiology, food processing, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and regulatory food legislation.
  • Experience in food photography is an advantage.
  • It is understood that as a student, you may not have all the above experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Concept Development

  • Develop concept plans aligned with the Brand Plan.
  • Investigate food trends, innovations, and consumer needs to identify unmet food needs.
  • Build and review concepts through research funnels to identify top concepts for taste research.
  • Conduct quantitative concept research.

Product Development, Research, and Costing

  • Develop product prototypes through technical investigation into raw ingredients and interactions.
  • Conduct qualitative taste and sensory research with the target market to identify preferred products.
  • Follow Nando’s stage gate process from ideation to product launch.
  • Apply South African food safety legislation.
  • Develop and sign off specifications with suppliers for ingredients, packaging, equipment, and small wares.
  • Compile and regularly update an allergen booklet and food nutritional & allergen info for all meal items.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure product feasibility and identify additional requirements.
  • Work with Supply Chain to source ingredients and packaging within cost parameters.
  • Develop product enhancements or changes to existing products.
  • Partner with Learning and Development to create product training approaches.

Trial Preparation, Validations, and Monitoring

  • Support brand experience at photoshoots for point-of-sale photography.
  • Verify standard operating procedures to ensure they align with the developed recipe and methodology.
  • Monitor trial roll-outs to ensure adherence to defined product protocols.
  • Confirm that the full product packing process is in place and ready for launch.
