Position Purpose
The successful candidates will provide labour support as directed by supervisors to ensure:
- Safe working conditions
- Clean operational environments
- Efficient cargo handling operations
- Compliance with operational and safety standards
Preference will be given to:
- People living with disabilities
- Applicants residing within Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality
Key Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be required to perform the following duties:
Cargo Handling and Operations
- Loading, off-loading and stacking cargo
- Hooking and unhooking cargo
- Tarping and untarping cargo where applicable
- Opening and closing rail wagon twist-locks
- Placing and removing dunnage
- Identifying the correct cargo handling equipment and gear
Monitoring and Inspection
- Inspecting container conditions
- Monitoring reefer container operations
- Reporting safety concerns and operational issues
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Cleaning operational equipment
- Cleaning crane cabins and windows
- Cleaning rail trucks and operational areas
- Cleaning workshops, sheds, offices and ablution facilities
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
Administration
- Completing accident reports and related documentation
- Reporting incidents according to company procedures
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NQF Level 4)
- Minimum of 1 year relevant working experience
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Good understanding of workplace safety procedures
- Ability to follow operational instructions accurately
