Duties and Responsibilities
As an E-Tutor, you will engage in various tasks aimed at enhancing the online learning experience for students. Key responsibilities include:

Requirements
To be considered for the E-Tutor position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Non-Unisa Employment: Applicants should not be current Unisa Fixed Term or Permanent staff members.
- Internet Access: Must have reliable and ongoing access to an Internet connection at their own expense.
- Educational Qualifications: A minimum of a Master’s degree is required, though a PhD in the relevant discipline is preferred.
- Software Ownership: Candidates must own copies of necessary software packages, including Internet browsers and word processing tools.
Skills Required
Prospective E-Tutors need to possess a variety of skills to ensure they can effectively support students and manage online learning environments:
- Advanced Computer and Internet Skills: Proficiency in using various software packages, Internet sites, and email is essential, as no training will be provided.
- Advanced Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills in English are crucial since most student interactions will occur via text on platforms like myUnisa and discussion forums.
- Commitment to Deadlines: A strong commitment to meeting deadlines and a passion for student-centered learning are vital.
- Interpersonal Skills: E-Tutors should be friendly, patient, and sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and needs of students.
Conditions of Employment
As an Independent Contractor, E-Tutors will work under specific conditions:
- Non-Employee Status: E-Tutors will not be considered Unisa employees.
- No Benefits: They will not be entitled to benefits such as medical aid, office space, equipment, or leave (including sick leave).
- Self-Provided Infrastructure: E-Tutors must provide their own infrastructure, including a computer, Internet access, workspace, and any other necessary office equipment.
- Flexible Work Hours: They will complete online teaching tasks in their own time, with a total of 75 hours per semester, excluding marking.
