Job Overview
Johannesburg Water is seeking to appoint Assistant Process Controllers (X4) to support the daily operations of wastewater treatment works.
The role focuses on maintaining safe working conditions, ensuring compliance with legislation, and assisting in physical operational duties within treatment facilities.
Purpose
Assist the Supervisor with the daily operation of wastewater treatment works, ensuring:
- Compliance with the National Water Act
- Adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHASA)
- Maintenance of a clean, safe, and efficient working environment
Key Responsibilities
- Clean tanks manually using spades and rakes
- Remove debris, weeds, and sludge from treatment areas
- Clean disinfection tanks and sludge drying beds
- Perform general maintenance and operational duties
- Clean offices, toilets, pump stations, and working areas
- Maintain housekeeping and safety standards
- Clear spillages and manage waste disposal
- Assist with projects addressing non-compliance issues
- Promote workplace safety and report hazards
- Follow disaster management procedures
- Ensure proper use of PPE at all times
Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Applicants may qualify based on different experience levels:
4 Years Wastewater Experience
- Grade 8 (Std 6) + Treatment Training Certificate
- OR Grade 12 (Matric/NTC III) with Mathematics and Science
3 Years Wastewater Experience
- Grade 9 (Std 7) + Treatment Training Certificate
2 Years Wastewater Experience
- Skills programme (minimum 30 credits from Water & Wastewater NQF Level 2)
- OR Grade 10 (NTC I) + Treatment Training Certificate
- OR N1 in Water and Wastewater Treatment Practice
1.5 Years Experience
- NTC I in Water and Wastewater Treatment Practice
1 Year Experience
- Grade 10 (NTC I) + Operations Certificate
- OR Grade 12 (NTC III) + Treatment Training Certificate
0.5 Years Experience
- Grade 11 (NTC II) + Operators Certificate
- OR N2 Water and Wastewater Treatment Practice
- OR NQF Level 3 Qualification
0 Years Experience
- Grade 12 (NTC III) + Operators Certificate
- OR N3 Water and Wastewater Treatment Practice
- OR NQF Level 4 Qualification
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of basic Occupational Health and Safety practices
