Job Overview
The Western Cape Mobility Department is recruiting Traffic Students for a Full-Time Study Bursary Programme leading to a Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement.
The training programme will run for 12 months, starting on 08 June 2026 at the Gene Louw Traffic College (GLTC), Brackenfell.

- Laingsburg
- Beaufort West
- Oudtshoorn
- Brackenfell
- Somerset West
- Vredendal
- Vredenburg
- Caledon
- Swellendam
- Mossel Bay
- George
- Knysna
Programme Purpose
To train and develop Traffic Officers capable of enforcing road traffic laws, ensuring public safety, and supporting crime prevention initiatives within the province.
Key Performance Areas
- Enforce road traffic, public passenger, and transport legislation
- Provide visible traffic control and promote crime prevention
- Perform administrative duties related to law enforcement
- Participate in practical deployment on a 24/7 shift system
- Adhere to all terms and conditions of the 12-month training contract
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent)
- Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B – manual)
- Physically fit
- No criminal record
- Must be under the age of 35 years
Additional conditions:
- Pregnant applicants will not be considered due to physical training demands
- Visible tattoos and body piercings (except one ear piercing for females) are not allowed
- Must be able to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the province
Assessments and Screening
Shortlisted candidates will undergo:
- Medical assessment (including drug and pregnancy test)
- Psychological assessment
- Physical fitness assessment
- Driving and written assessments
- Interview process
- Criminal record check via South African Police Service
- Ongoing fitness and drug testing during training

Remuneration
- Monthly stipend of R5 000 for the duration of the 12-month training programme
- Meals and accommodation are not included
Important Notes
- No permanent employment is guaranteed after completion of the programme
- Future permanent roles require a separate application process
- Selection will be guided by Employment Equity targets
- Candidates must attend interviews as scheduled and submit required documents for verification
- Two pre-entry assessments will be conducted (practical and integrity assessment)
