Sandf Military Skills Development System (MSDS) – 2027 Intake

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) invites young South Africans to apply for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Programme 2027 Intake.

This programme offers military training and career development opportunities across different branches of the Defence Force.

MSDS Applications Open: 16 February 2026
Closing Date: 27 March 2026

Programme Overview

The SANDF Military Skills Development Programme is a two-year voluntary service contract.

  • Year 1: Basic military training + functional training
  • Year 2: Specialized training within the applicant’s chosen Service

Participants gain military knowledge, leadership skills, discipline, and practical experience in a professional environment.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • South African Citizen (No dual citizenship)
  • Age: 18 – 22 years (Grade 12 applicants)
  • Age: 18 – 26 years (Applicants with a 3-year tertiary qualification)
  • Must have completed Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Must achieve an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 18
    • Excluding Life Orientation (LO)
  • No criminal record or pending cases
  • Must comply with medical fitness requirements
    • Includes drug testing, psychometric and medical evaluation
  • No visible tattoos (especially when in uniform)

Additional Notes

  • Applicants applying for specialized musterings such as Aviation Engineering must have Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Only statement of results for 2025 will be accepted.
  • Attach certified copies of:
    • CV
    • ID Document
    • Matric Certificate
    • Tertiary qualifications (if applicable)
